श्री गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब विश्व विश्वविद्यालय, फतेहगढ़ साहिब ने “गुर्बानी अनुवाद: आवश्यकता, नैतिकता और मानक” विषय पर सात दिवसीय राष्ट्रीय कार्यशाला का सफल समापन किया। यह कार्यशाला आंतरिक गुणवत्ता आश्वासन प्रकोष्ठ और विरासत ज्ञान प्रबंधन केंद्र द्वारा श्री गुरु गोविंद सिंह जी की 350वीं जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में आयोजित की गई थी। मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में, पटियाला स्थित पंजाबी विश्वविद्यालय के पूर्व प्रोफेसर डॉ. सतनाम सिंह संधू ने गुरबानी के अनुवाद से जुड़ी चुनौतियों पर अपने विचार साझा किए और इस संबंध में एक शब्दकोश तैयार करने पर जोर दिया। समापन भाषण के दौरान, डॉ. जसवंत सिंह ने “गुर्बानी अनुवाद के प्रमुख तत्व” विषय पर चर्चा करते हुए इस कार्य से जुड़े बुनियादी सिद्धांतों और नैतिक दायित्वों पर प्रकाश डाला। कुलपति प्रो. (डॉ.) प्रितपाल सिंह ने अपने अध्यक्षीय भाषण में इस पहल की सराहना करते हुए गुरबानी की समझ और व्याख्या को गहरा करने के लिए ऐसे शैक्षणिक प्रयासों के महत्व पर बल दिया। विश्वविद्यालय ट्रस्ट के सदस्य एस. अमरदीप सिंह धारणी ने अपने संबोधन में गुरबानी के संदेश को अकादमिक सीमाओं से परे ले जाने की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया। डीन अकादमिक मामलों के प्रो. (डॉ.) सुखविंदर सिंह बिलिंग विशेष अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित थे। आंतरिक गुणवत्ता आश्वासन प्रकोष्ठ की निदेशक डॉ. अंकदीप कौर अटवाल ने सभी अतिथियों का स्वागत किया और कार्यशाला की विस्तृत रिपोर्ट प्रस्तुत की। सात दिवसीय कार्यशाला में सैद्धांतिक और व्यावहारिक पहलुओं का सुंदर संगम देखने को मिला। उद्घाटन और समापन भाषणों के अलावा, सिंगापुर स्थित लॉस्ट हेरिटेज फाउंडेशन के निदेशक अमरदीप सिंह, अंग्रेजी विभाग के प्रोफेसर एमेरिटस डॉ. स्वराज राज, चंडीगढ़ स्थित सिख रिसर्च इंस्टीट्यूट के विक्रमजीत सिंह तिहारा और जगतेज सिंह ने विभिन्न विषयों पर विचार-विमर्श किया। हेरिटेज नॉलेज मैनेजमेंट सेंटर के संयोजक डॉ. हरदेव सिंह ने धन्यवाद ज्ञापन प्रस्तुत किया। श्रीमती जसप्रीत कौर ने सत्र का सुचारू संचालन किया। इस अवसर पर शारीरिक शिक्षा विभाग के प्रमुख डॉ. वरिंदर सिंह भुल्लर, पूर्व छात्र विभाग के डीन और कंप्यूटर विज्ञान विभाग के प्रमुख डॉ. सरप्रीत सिंह और विभिन्न विभागों के प्रमुख भी उपस्थित थे।

ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ. ਸਤਨਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਚੁਣੌਤੀਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕੋਸ਼ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਉਪਰ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਵਿਦਾਇਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਿੱਖ-ਰੀ (ਅਮਰੀਕਾ) ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਡਾ. ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ “ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੱਤ” ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ’ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਮੂਲ ਧਾਰਣਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੈਤਿਕ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਚਾਨਣ ਪਾਇਆ।ਵਾਈਸ ਚਾਂਸਲਰ ਪ੍ਰੋ. (ਡਾ.) ਪਰਿਤ ਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਇਸ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਗਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਉਪਰਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਉੱਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸ. ਅਮਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਾਰਨੀ ਨੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਹੱਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਉੱਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਡੀਨ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. (ਡਾ.) ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਿਲਿੰਗ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਣ ਸੈੱਲ ਦੀ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਡਾ. ਅੰਕਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਅਟਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੀ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਪੂਰਣ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸੱਤ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਕ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਹਾਰਕ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਉਦਘਾਟਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਾਇਗੀ ਵਕਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਅਮਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ, ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਦਾ ਲੋਸਟ ਹੈਰੀਟੇਜ ਫਾਉਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ, ਸਿੰਗਾਪੁਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਐਮਿਰਿਟਸ ਡਾ. ਸਵਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ, ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਕਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਿਹਾੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤੇਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਖ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਨੇ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਵਟਾਂਦਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਵਿਰਾਸਤੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਕਨਵੀਨਰ ਡਾ. ਹਰਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਮਤਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, successfully concluded a 7-day National Workshop on “Gurbani Translation: Need, Ethics and Standards.” The workshop was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Indian Knowledge System Cell in commemoration of the 350th Guruship Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It culminated in a solemn and intellectually enriching valedictory session, marked by active participation from scholars.
Prof. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Retired Professor from Punjabi University, Patiala, was the Chief Guest of the valedictory session. He shared thoughtful reflections on the challenges associated with translating Gurbani and presented a critical and reflective perspective. The valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Jaswant Singh, Director, Sikh Research Institute (USA), who spoke on “Key Elements of Gurbani Translation,” highlighting the fundamental principles and ethical responsibilities associated with this task.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, delivered the Presidential Address, appreciating the initiative and emphasizing the importance of such academic efforts in deepening the understanding and interpretation of Gurbani. S. Amardeep Singh Dharni, Member Trust, also addressed the gathering and stressed the need to take the message of Gurbani beyond academic spaces to the wider society. Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. He appreciated the efforts of the organising team and emphasised the need of such workshops. He said that the workshop has significantly contributed towards strengthening higher ethical standards and academic excellence in this important field.
Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, formally welcomed the dignitaries and presented a detailed report of the workshop. She informed that over the course of seven days, the workshop witnessed a meaningful integration of theoretical and practical dimensions. The workshop featured insightful sessions by Dr. Jaswant Singh who explored the need, scope, and challenges of Gurbani translation; Interactive sessions conducted by S. Vikramjeet Singh, S. Jagtej Singh, and Dr. Jaswant Singh; S. Amardeep Singh from Singapore who linked translation with visual ethnography and cultural documentation, presenting it as an experiential and interpretative process; and Dr. Swaraj Raj, Professor Emeritus, Department of English, who provided valuable theoretical insights into translation studies, particularly focusing on the translator’s voice and cultural resonances. She shared that online practical sessions were also conducted in which participants translated portions of their respective syllabi along with key terminologies, thereby strengthening their applied skills.
Dr. Hardev Singh, Convener, Indian Knowledge System Cell, while proposing the vote of thanks shared that the workshop successfully integrated theory and practice, equipping participants with a deeper understanding of the nuances of Gurbani translation. The session was efficiently moderated by Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, Member, IQAC and PublicRelationsofficeroftheUniversity. Among the distinguished attendees were Dr. Sarpreet Singh, Dean Alumni and Head, Department of Computer Science; Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar, Head, Department of Physical Education; S. Vikramjeet Singh; and S. Phera Singh.
