“India Facing an Undeclared Emergency Under Modi Regime”: H.S. Lucky

Chandigarh/SANGHOL -TIMES/KEWAL-BHARTI/June 25, 2025 – H.S. Lucky, President of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee, today strongly condemned what he termed as the prevailing atmosphere of undeclared emergency in the country under the BJP-led Modi government. On the 50th anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, Lucky said that while the Emergency then was declared formally, what the country is witnessing today is a more dangerous, invisible, and systematic subversion of democracy without any official proclamation.

He said, “From silencing dissent, misusing central agencies, arresting opposition leaders, and suppressing the media, to bulldozing federalism and intimidating the judiciary — the Modi government has recreated every symptom of a dark era without even needing to announce it. This is nothing less than an undeclared emergency.”

Lucky pointed out that:

Opposition leaders are being arrested or harassed under flimsy pretexts, while BJP leaders facing serious charges roam free.

Media houses are either muzzled or bought, killing the independent voice of journalism and leaving the public misinformed.

Freedom of speech and expression is under assault, with sedition and UAPA laws being used against students, activists, and common citizens.

Federalism is being dismantled, as states governed by non-BJP parties are facing continuous interference from the Centre.

The electoral process has been compromised, with manipulation of institutions like the Election Commission and use of money power through the now-scrapped electoral bonds scheme.

“This undeclared emergency is far more insidious because it hides behind the garb of democracy. The Constitution is being hollowed out from within,” said Lucky.

He also called upon all democratic forces to rise above party lines and resist this creeping authoritarianism. “It is the duty of every citizen who believes in the Constitution, in liberty and justice, to speak up before it is too late,” he added.

Lucky urged the people of Chandigarh and the country at large to remain vigilant against those who seek to destroy democratic institutions for personal power.

चंडीगढ़/SANGHOL-TIMES/KEWAL-BHARTI/25 जून 2025: चंडीगढ़ प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी के अध्यक्ष एच.एस. लक्की ने आज देश में व्याप्त अघोषित आपातकाल जैसी स्थिति की कड़े शब्दों में निंदा की। 1975 में लगाए गए आपातकाल की 50वीं वर्षगांठ पर बोलते हुए लक्की ने कहा कि भले ही उस समय आपातकाल की औपचारिक घोषणा की गई थी, लेकिन आज देश एक अधिक खतरनाक, अदृश्य और सुनियोजित लोकतंत्र विरोधी षड्यंत्र का सामना कर रहा है — बिना किसी आधिकारिक घोषणा के।

लक्की ने कहा,
“विपक्ष की आवाज़ को दबाना, केंद्रीय एजेंसियों का दुरुपयोग, विपक्षी नेताओं की गिरफ्तारियां, मीडिया पर नियंत्रण, राज्यों के अधिकारों का हनन और न्यायपालिका को डराना — मोदी सरकार ने बिना घोषणा किए ही आपातकाल जैसे हालात बना दिए हैं। यह किसी भी रूप में घोषित आपातकाल से कम नहीं है।”

उन्होंने बताया कि:

विपक्षी नेताओं को बेबुनियाद आरोपों में फंसाया या परेशान किया जा रहा है, जबकि गंभीर आरोपों का सामना कर रहे भाजपा नेता खुलेआम घूम रहे हैं।

मीडिया या तो दबा दी गई है या खरीदी जा चुकी है, जिससे निष्पक्ष पत्रकारिता लगभग समाप्त हो गई है और जनता को सही जानकारी नहीं मिल रही।

अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता पर हमला हो रहा है, छात्रों, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं और आम नागरिकों पर देशद्रोह और यूएपीए जैसे कठोर कानून थोपे जा रहे हैं।

संघीय ढांचे को कमजोर किया जा रहा है, गैर-भाजपा शासित राज्यों के अधिकारों में लगातार हस्तक्षेप किया जा रहा है।

चुनावी प्रक्रिया पर भी प्रश्नचिह्न लग चुके हैं, चुनाव आयोग जैसी संस्थाओं की निष्पक्षता पर संदेह और अब रद्द किए जा चुके चुनावी बॉन्ड के ज़रिए पैसों की धांधली इसका प्रमाण हैं।

लक्की ने कहा, “यह अघोषित आपातकाल ज्यादा खतरनाक है क्योंकि यह लोकतंत्र की आड़ में छिपा हुआ है। संविधान को भीतर से खोखला किया जा रहा है।”

उन्होंने सभी लोकतांत्रिक ताक़तों से अपील की कि वे दलगत राजनीति से ऊपर उठकर इस निरंकुशता के ख़िलाफ़ आवाज़ उठाएं। “हर उस नागरिक का कर्तव्य है जो संविधान, स्वतंत्रता और न्याय में विश्वास रखता है कि वह अब चुप न बैठे — इससे पहले कि बहुत देर हो जाए।”
